This real Franklin Delano Roosevelt election speech quote from the 1936 election is a rare example of a politician standing up to money and special interests.
At Madison Square Garden, 3 days before the 1936 election, President FDR called out “the old enemies of peace – business and financial monopoly, speculation, reckless banking, class antagonism, sectionalism, war profiteering”, saying “We know now that Government by organized money is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob”, and “They are unanimous in their hate for me – and I welcome their hatred.”
Can you imagine any politician today talking like that? The full audio is on Youtube.
